About Birdline NSW
Birdline NSW is a public noticeboard for rare, unusual, or otherwise notable bird sightings in New South Wales. It continues the NSW service formerly run on the Eremaea Birdlines website. Anyone can read it — no account is needed. Report a sighting (requires a free account).
What to report
Birdline is for sightings that are out of the ordinary, such as:
- Species rare or vagrant to NSW, or to a particular region.
- Birds well outside their usual range or season.
- Unusually high counts, breeding records, or other noteworthy observations.
Common birds seen in their normal range and season are best recorded in eBird (opens in a new tab) rather than here.
Moderation
Every submission is reviewed by a volunteer moderator before it appears. This keeps the noticeboard accurate and useful. Your contact email is used only to follow up on your submission if needed — it is never shown publicly.
Ethical birding
Please put the birds first. Keep your distance, avoid disturbing nesting or roosting birds, stay on tracks and public land, and respect any access notes attached to a sighting. Do not enter private property without permission.
